Enter and View: Atholl House Nursing Home
Our report following a visit to the Atholl House Nursing Home in the Compton area of Wolverhampton, which provides provides general and dementia nursing care for up to 84 residents.
This was an unannounced Enter and View visit which was conducted in response to information received by Healthwatch Wolverhampton at various stakeholder meetings.
Summary of Findings
- We saw members of staff involving residents with duties and activities.
- The home has a pay phone and Wi-Fi for residents to access.
- The home was odour and clutter free and had a peaceful environment.
Authorised Representatives made the following recommendations:
- Ensure all visitors sign in and use hand gel on entrance to the home.
- For ease of navigation introduce signage on the doors and landings.
- Staff should all be wearing name badges and a staff board could display the roles of the multidisciplinary team.
- Repair broken cupboards and drawers in dining room.
- Remove stacked boxes in corridor as they are a hazard.
- A few residents rooms appeared overcrowded with their belongings which could impede the cleaning processes and infection prevention.
- Engage staff with any changes that are taking place in the home and introduce confidentiality training.
- Medication access and administered to being overseen in a clinically safe manner.
